The Alexandria City Council recently voted to extend the hours for the parking meters in Old Town and Carlyle. However, quite often, I run across meters that are out of service like the one I posted on Twitter last night which generated some discussion (see examples below). So, I will ask the same question here that I asked on Twitter.
If Alexandria is going to extend the hours for the parking meters, shouldn’t the meters work correctly? Also, the extended hours has caused a drop in traffic already in quite a few businesses in Old Town and Carlyle and also residents are saying they’ve seen less parking spaces available in the two hour residential zones. The law of unintended consequences?
