UPDATE (10:00 AM): Councilman Justin Wilson informed me that this meeting was to advertise the rate which means they cannot go above the rate once they voted on it. I changed the verbiage in the second paragraph to reflect that.
As readers know, Acting City Manager Mark Jinks has put forth a fiscal year 2016 budget that does not raise the tax rate for the coming fiscal year that begin July 1, 2015. Last night, the Alexandria City Council voted unanimously to affirm the tax rate at it’s current rate as proposed.
This meeting was to advertise the rate. This means that the rate will NOT go above the proposed rate in the proposed budget and remain the same as last year. Public hearing and a Second Reading on the tax rate will be on April 21, 2015.
