This Labor Day weekend, track work on the Metrorail system will continue September 2-4, 2017 with service adjustments on four of six rail lines.

  • Yellow and Green line trains operate regular weekend service
  • Free shuttle buses replace Red Line trains between Friendship Heights and Twinbrook
  • Orange, Silver and Blue line trains operate every 24 minutes

Red Line

Red Line trains will operate at regular weekend intervals between Shady Grove & Twinbrook and between Friendship Heights & Glenmont. Additional trains will operate between Silver Spring & Farragut North between 9:00AM & 9:00PM.

This work will take place over two weekends, September 2-4 and 9-10.

Free shuttle buses will operate between Friendship Heights, Bethesda, Medical Center, Grosvenor-Strathmore, White Flint and Twinbrook. Please allow 10 minutes of travel time for each station stop.

Stations closed: White Flint, Grosvenor-Strathmore, Medical Center and Bethesda.

To allow for shuttle bus connections, the last trains will depart:

  • Shady Grove at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, 9:45 p.m. Sunday and Monday, 40 minutes earlier than normal.
  • Glenmont at 12:33 a.m. Saturday, and 10:33 p.m. Sunday and Monday, regular time.

Work performed: Rail tie renewal, joint elimination and leak mitigation.

Tap your SmarTrip card each time you enter and exit the Metrorail system. Riders traveling through the work zone will be charged for a single, continuous trip.

Orange Line 

Trains every 24 minutes | 7:00AM Saturday through closing Monday

Single tracking between Clarendon and East Falls Church to allow for communication cable installation along tunnel walls for cell phone coverage.

Silver Line 

Trains every 24 minutes | 7:00AM Saturday through closing Monday

Single tracking between Clarendon and East Falls Church to allow for communications cable installation along tunnel walls for cell phone coverage.

Blue Line

Trains every 24 minutes | 7:00AM Saturday through closing Monday

Single tracking between Van Dorn Street and Franconia-Springfield to allow for platform edge repair, fence repair and rail tie renewal.
