Photo: New Year’s Day Super Moon Over Alexandria, Virginia

ICYMI, the first day of 2018 featured the biggest full moon of the year – a super moon. A ‘super moon’ occurs when the Moon arrives at perigee, its closest point to Earth in an orbit.

Check out this photo of the super moon I snapped while outside in the freezing cold last night. I snapped this over the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office in Carlyle.

If you have a photo you’d like to share, you can email me at alxcitizen[at]gmail[dot]com, Tweet us a photo to @ALXCitizen, or post it on our Facebook page.

Last night’s  is one of two full super moons in January.

But, is a super moon really super? Check out this link.
