New Water Main Break in Alexandria on MLK Day

UPDATE (8:06 PM): Water has been restored to the affected area.

UPDATE (3:00 PM): No water due to the break has caused the Landmark area McDonald’s to shut down temporarily.

UPDATE (12:21 PM): Virginia American Water says residents & business along Holmes Run Parkway area affected and have given a 6-10 hour timeframe for water restoration.

UPDATE (11:48 AM): One lane WB Duke Street now getting by.

UPDATE (10:31 AM): Traffic re-routed through Cameron Station at Ben Brenman Park. Expect delays in the area.

There’s a water main break in front of the Beatley Central Library in Alexandria, Virginia in the 5000 block of Duke Street on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Expect Duke Street westbound to be closed off at Ben Brenman Park or Foxchase Shopping Center until further notice.

Witnesses say that the water spilling into the roadway is freezing, avoid the area if possible. Virginia American Water says this is a large 12″ main that has broken.

Virginia American Water Crews are headed to the scene and no timetable for restoration has been provided yet.

Westbound traffic in Alexandria should take North Jordan Street to Taney Avenue or Seminary Road to get around the road closure.
