What does it mean to open up your hips? The right hip point has come forward and the left one has gone back. This is the simplest form of what we call an open hip position. If you go the opposite way and rotate the pelvis to the right, the left hip point comes forward and the right one goes back.

What causes hips to lock up? There are three things that this could be. First is arthritis which is the most common. Second is a tear in the cartilage rim that goes around the socket (labrum). Third is a loose piece of bone/cartilage floating around in the hip joint.
How do you decompress your hips?
- Sit up straight with your buttocks firmly touching the floor.
- Bend your knees and place the bottoms of your feet together so that your heels touch.
- Take a deep breath in to center your stretch.
- Gently press your knees down on both sides toward the floor and breathe out. You may hear your hip pop.
